Description

Sally's soirée at Mrs. Meecher's boarding house quickly becomes a lively laboratory of opinions. As guests mingle, they turn her modest inheritance into a roundtable of financial schemes—bonds, theatres, even a daring wager on a heavyweight bout. Sally, ever the gracious host, listens to the well‑meaning but over‑confident advisers, her own modest savings a stark contrast to their grand projections. The banter reveals a cast of characters from the brisk broker Augustus Bartlett to the bright‑eyed Elsa Doland, each offering a slice of their world view.

The arrival of a charismatic newcomer, Ginger, adds a fresh twist to the evening, while the enigmatic Mr. Carmyle watches from the shadows, his dignity hinting at hidden motives. As the night unfolds, Sally finds herself balancing the exuberant plans of her friends with the reality of her limited means, setting the stage for choices that will test her generosity and resolve. The first act promises witty dialogue, unexpected alliances, and a glimpse into the quirky social tapestry of early twentieth‑century society.
