Description

George Andrews lives in the shadow of a grim workhouse, where his mother’s failing eyesight forces the family into the infirmary’s bleak corridors. The young boy watches his mother’s quiet resignation and feels the weight of a future that seems already decided. Yet even in these humble surroundings, his mind already spins with thoughts of climbing higher, of turning every chance into a stepping stone.

When the parish doctor offers a ride to admit his mother, a ripple of hope passes through George’s life. The encounter hints at a network of opportunities that a steady, determined boy can seize, even from the poorest of beginnings. As the story unfolds, listeners will follow George’s early struggles and his first brave choices, setting the stage for a journey defined by perseverance and the relentless pursuit of a better place.
