Description

On a brisk December day in 1862, the streets of Glasgow thrum with the clamor of countless onlookers gathered along the Clyde. They have come to witness the launch of the Delphin, a newly built iron steamship that boasts a five‑hundred‑horse‑power engine and a pioneering twin‑propeller design. The vessel, ordered by the industrialists Tod and Mac Gregor, represents the height of Victorian engineering, its massive hull ready to test the river’s depth. As the massive hull slides into the water, cheers rise from both banks, marking the beginning of a bold enterprise.

With the Delphin underway, its crew—engineers, sailors, and a handful of curious passengers—set a course that promises more than a simple river run. The ship’s powerful machinery and innovative steering invite speculation about the far‑flung voyages it might soon undertake, from distant ports to uncharted waters. Early challenges already appear as the vessel battles the river’s current and the weight of its own ambition. Listeners will be drawn into the atmosphere of steam, steel, and the restless spirit that drives the age of exploration.
