Description

In the early days of the American Revolution, a young man named Roger watches his world upend as news of battle reaches his home. When a schoolmaster brings word that his father has fallen and British forces are retreating, Roger’s mother—steady and resolute—imposes a new purpose on him, urging loyalty to the Crown despite the chaos outside. Faced with the sudden arrival of rebel soldiers and the weight of his family’s legacy, he is thrust into a moral crossroads that will shape his future.

The narrative follows Roger’s first steps toward a life he never imagined, from the tense moments in his family’s library to the urgent summons to protect his sisters and servants. As loyalties are tested and the fledgling nation’s turmoil intensifies, he discovers a fierce determination to align with the Loyalist cause, setting the stage for an arduous journey northward.
