Description

At a shimmering summer pond beside the turnpike of Bumsteadville, a small gathering of clergy, scholars, and restless youths unwinds beneath amber twilight. Reverend Octavius, the earnest Gospeler, and the feuding Pendragon siblings—Magnolia, sharp‑tongued and fervent, and her brother Montgomery, torn between admiration and rivalry—exchange rapid, allusion‑laden dialogue that feels like a Victorian salon on the water’s edge. The scene unfolds with a light touch of humor, as mosquito hums and mischievous references to ancient drama frame a brewing dispute over the enigmatic Mr. E. Drood.

The heart of the story is a tangled misunderstanding that has left Montgomery at odds with the elusive editor Drood, and a determined sister who vows to mend the breach. As the Reverend pushes for a conciliatory meeting, the characters reveal personal ambitions, unspoken affections, and a longing for intellectual vindication. Listeners are drawn into a charmingly erudite mystery, where the clash of pride and propriety promises both witty repartee and a deeper search for resolution.
