Description

In the early years of the United States Navy, a bright‑eyed orphan named David Forsyth is thrust into a world of sail‑powered warfare and intrigue. Guided by his guardian, a Baltimore rector, and the seasoned Commodore Joshua Barney, David witnesses the fierce clash between American ships and the Barbary corsairs that plagued Mediterranean trade. Along the way he rubs shoulders with legendary officers such as Stephen Decatur, giving readers a vivid glimpse of the daring tactics that secured America’s fledgling naval reputation.

When a daring land expedition is launched to free captured sailors from North‑African prisons, David joins General William Eaton’s caravan across the scorching Sahara, chasing rumors of a hidden royal tomb filled with ancient riches. The journey carries him through bustling desert towns, tense negotiations with local beys, and encounters with enigmatic figures like a desert girl named Anne. Blending factual history with swashbuckling fiction, the novel captures the restless spirit of youth amid the high‑stakes battles of sea and sand.
