Description

In the frozen wilderness of British Columbia, a solitary telegraph operator named Jim Dearham battles the relentless cold, isolation, and his own restless yearning for civilization. Living in a log‑built shack amid snow‑laden pines, Jim spends his evenings hunched over a battered romance novel, a habit that keeps his mind sharp and his senses attuned to the harsh landscape. His past flickers between the refined salons of Montreal and the rugged mining camps of the north, leaving him caught between cultured longing and the raw demands of the wild.

One night, the wind carries the heavy tread of strangers trudging through the storm, their broken boots and frost‑bitten faces a stark reminder that the remote outpost is anything but empty. As Jim offers them shelter by the fire, the uneasy camaraderie that forms hints at deeper secrets and unforeseen dangers lurking beyond the telegraph line. The story unfolds as a tense, character‑driven adventure where survival, memory, and the pull of the unknown intertwine.
