Description

A weary civil guard watches as Joel Barlow and Laurine Coret stroll through a twilight park, their casual banter masking a deeper mission. They’ve been summoned by a shadowy organization to confront the rise of a new tyrant—Dodson—who has seized control of the planet after a rogue time‑traveler’s previous interference. When Laurine suddenly vanishes in terror, Barlow’s search is interrupted by a strange, violet‑hazed figure claiming to be Valnar, a man displaced from his own era and desperate to correct the temporal errors that threaten his very existence.

The encounter thrusts Barlow into a precarious alliance with Valnar, whose imperfect grasp of history and physics makes every moment a precarious gamble. Together they must navigate a world where the past and future collide, while trying to thwart Dodson’s growing grip before the fragile resistance crumbles. The story balances suspenseful intrigue with the uneasy humor of strangers trying to make sense of a bewildering, time‑tangled reality.
