Description

A seasoned detective from the Secret Service rides a slow, summer‑heat train, his left arm in a sling after a recent, fruitless assignment. Though praised as the force’s best, he’s humiliated by a failed case and a cryptic warning that precedes a sudden, unseen shot from a hedge. His determination to prove his skill drives him into the heart of a remote farming community.

The town of Groveland is a close‑knit patchwork of orchards, white‑painted farmhouses and a modest schoolhouse, where everyone knows each other’s names and histories. Yet beneath its peaceful routine lies a secret that has unsettled the locals, and the detective’s arrival awakens old grudges and fresh suspicion. Listeners will be drawn into a classic turn‑of‑the‑century mystery, following a sharp mind as he untangles clues amid a landscape of cornfields, gossip, and hidden motives.
