A sharp‑witted young man leaves his small hometown in search of work and, after a long, tiring journey, finds himself in the wide‑open parish of Moromäki. There he is taken in by the kindly, widowed shopkeeper Partasuu, who offers him a position as an assistant in her bustling general store. The shop quickly becomes a hub of gossip and community, and the newcomer’s quick mind and ready smile earn him both respect and curious whispers among the locals.
Soon he forges a lasting friendship with Vistin Ville, a fellow worker whose home becomes a frequent gathering place. As the seasons turn, Epo settles into married life with Partasuu, sharing simple joys and the occasional hardship that life on the rural frontier brings. At the same time, his reputation as “Ooperin Epo” spreads—people speak of his clever tricks, his knack for turning modest opportunities into memorable escapades, and the promise of larger adventures that await beyond Moromäki’s stone‑strewn roads.
