Description

Nan Sherwood's cottage on the edge of Tillbury is buzzing with the arrival of old school friends who have hurried back from England. Their plans for picnics, lake fires, and moonlit songs are suddenly interrupted when a striking white‑haired stranger steps into the parlor, his bright blue eyes alight with curiosity. Bess, Nan’s longtime companion, finds herself both embarrassed and fascinated by the unexpected guest’s bold demeanor.

The visitor reveals himself as Adair MacKenzie, a charismatic cousin from Memphis with grand ideas of taking the girls on a whirlwind tour of England and then back to Tillbury each summer. His flamboyant plans clash with the girls’ modest wishes for dresses and simple holidays, yet his infectious enthusiasm sparks a tug‑of‑war between comfort and adventure. As the summer approaches, Nan and her friends must decide whether to cling to their familiar lakeside dreams or step onto a wider stage that promises new horizons.
