Description

Marie has spent most of her childhood within the quiet walls of a convent, her only connection to the outside world the occasional, faded letters from a father she has never truly known. When a solicitor arrives bearing news of a house on Blumen Straße and an invitation to leave the cloister for Vienna, the promise of belonging awakens in her a mixture of excitement and trembling uncertainty. The prospect of a home, of art and music lessons, feels like a sunrise after years of dim, regimented days.

Now, standing before the solicitor’s great spectacles, Marie wrestles with the practicalities of a life she has only imagined. Her convent education has left her fluent in French, a modest grasp of music and drawing, yet she wonders how those skills will serve her in a world beyond the chapel’s bells. The decision she must make—whether to step into the unknown with the man who claims to be her father—marks the fragile beginning of her journey toward independence.
