MORE ENGLISH FAIRY TALES
The Pied Piper

The Golden Ball
My Own Self
This collection gathers a dozen or more lively English folk tales that have rarely, if ever, been printed together before. The editor has drawn stories from the English countryside, the Lowland Scots, even a few American variants, stitching them into a single, coherent volume. Each narrative carries the distinctive “well” and “lawkamercy” flavor of traditional oral storytelling, while the accompanying illustrations add a visual charm that sparks the imagination.
In preparing the anthology, the editor chose to rewrite many of the originals, smoothing dialect and filling gaps so the tales flow smoothly for modern ears. Yet the revisions retain the old‑world cadence and occasional archaic touches that give the stories their authentic glow. The result is a balance between faithful preservation and approachable narration, ideal for listening.
Listeners will find themselves drawn into familiar yet fresh worlds—brave heroes, clever tricksters, and enchanted objects—each told with a warm, storyteller’s cadence that feels as if a village elder were leaning in close to share a secret. The anthology invites both children and adults to linger over the timeless wonder of England’s folk imagination.
