Mikko Tiukkatuuli is a quiet boy from a southern village who finds himself sandwiched in the middle row of a bustling third‑grade classroom. Though his peers and teachers see him as a lazy, unremarkable student, his sharp mind works behind a veil of clever excuses and half‑remembered lessons. The stern instructor Svenningsen christens him “Mikko the Strong Wind” after a teasing remark, and the nickname sticks as a reminder of his outsider status.
In the cramped schoolroom Mikko masters the art of staying unnoticed, stacking books as a shield and slipping out brief moments to glance at the pages he’s supposed to know. He invents elaborate alibis whenever a teacher calls on him, turning each interrogation into a small, private triumph. Though his grades hover around the middle, the boy’s quick wit and resourcefulness hint at a deeper intelligence waiting to surface, setting the stage for the challenges he will soon have to confront.
