Description

Maida Westabrook is a delicate, bright‑eyed girl whose health has always set her apart. Traveling with her formidable father, a man known as “Buffalo,” her trusted physician, and her loyal friend Billy, she watches the world rush by from a car window, dreaming of the sea beyond. Though she now walks, the lingering weakness that shadows her every step leaves her restless and yearning for something more than the toys and pets that fill her family’s Adirondack home.

Her father, ever eager to shield her, has surrounded Maida with every imaginable trinket—a doll‑house, a tiny theater, exotic animals—yet the doctor warns that idle amusement won’t cure her lingering “languor.” The family embarks on a quiet quest to find an activity that will truly capture her imagination and give her a purpose beyond the confines of her ailments.

Set against a gentle early‑20th‑century backdrop, the story follows Maida’s subtle journey toward discovery, inviting listeners to share in the tender moments of hope, curiosity, and the simple magic that can awaken a weary heart.
