PAUL GRUNDMANN
A scorching summer day in 1846 finds three rugged frontiersmen pitching their modest camp on the remote banks of Colorado’s Rio de Puerco. Led by the weather‑worn veteran Tom, whose towering presence hides a quiet kindness, they share a simple fire and a sparse meal while the river murmurs nearby. Within their small group, the eager young Francois, eager to follow in his late father’s footsteps, looks to Tom as a mentor, while the seasoned hunter Pedro offers a hint of hidden routes and secret refuges that might keep them out of Apache territory.
The trio soon sets out along the untamed shoreline, the wilderness spreading wide and wild around them. The landscape is a tapestry of dense thickets, towering willows, and mist‑filled riverbanks that blanket the water in a ghostly veil as evening falls. Their journey is marked by quiet determination and a keen eye for survival, hinting at the challenges and camaraderie that will shape their frontier lives.
