Bastion, a weary Parisian judge, spends his mornings staring out over the Seine, longing for a case that will finally test his keen mind. The monotony of petty crimes is shattered when a crisp card bearing the seal of Scotland Yard is slipped into his hand, announcing the arrival of James Baxter, a seasoned English detective. Baxter breathes life into Bastien’s dormant ambition, revealing that the infamous thief known as Lord Lister—renowned in England as Raffles—has slipped into the city’s shadows, undetected and seemingly idle.
The news is quickly followed by a sealed, urgent letter addressed to the judge, its sender signed only “Raffles.” The sudden intrusion of an international hunt forces Bastien to abandon routine and confront a criminal whose reputation precedes him. As the two men plot a pursuit through Paris’s winding streets and opulent courtyards, listeners are drawn into a tense game of wits, where every clue could tip the balance between capture and escape.
