Description

Set in the glittering salons of late‑19th‑century Paris, this witty vignette follows the flamboyant chevalier de Pimprenelle as he wrestles with the indignities of fashion and reputation. Awakening bewildered from a night of drunken revelry, he confronts his nervous valet La Brie about the cut of his ribbons, the quality of his silk, and the ridicule of a jealous vicomte. The opening scene crackles with rapid repartee, exposing the chevalier’s fragile vanity beneath a veneer of aristocratic swagger.

In a tone that blends slapstick farce with sharp social commentary, the narrative lampoons the rituals of the upper class while celebrating the absurdity of petty grievances. La Brie, eager to please, scrambles for a mysterious book that might resolve the knight’s sartorial crisis, only to be rebuffed with a disdainful sniff of “old parchment.” The clash of pompous self‑importance and servant humility creates a lively portrait of a world where appearances mean everything, yet are constantly under threat.
