Description

A crisp March evening finds the remote Fort‑Reliance alive with the glow of lanterns and the scent of burning coal. Captain Craventy has thrown a modest yet elaborate celebration, the great hall draped in an astonishing array of Arctic pelts—wolf, bear, otter, and fox—each one a trophy of the surrounding wilderness. The wooden walls, heavy beams, and sturdy benches convey a rugged charm, while the hushed conversation of officers and traders hints at the fortunes and perils of the Hudson’s Bay fur business.

Beyond the revelry, the story follows Craventy, his diligent corporal Joliffe, and a small band of explorers as they set out from the fort into the unforgiving north. Their journey promises encounters with towering ice fields, elusive wildlife, and the stark beauty of the polar night. Each step deeper into the wilderness tests their resolve, offering listeners a vivid portrait of adventure on the edge of the world.
