Description

A lively comedy opens with a tongue‑in‑cheek letter from the playwright himself, inviting the audience to set aside their worries and enjoy a light‑hearted romp. The scene is set in Paris, where the flamboyant Spanish barber arrives with his trusty razor and a head full of clever tricks. Already he has tangled himself in a series of amusing misunderstandings that promise plenty of witty banter and quick‑witted repartee.

The story quickly gathers a colorful cast: the scheming physician Bartholo, a determined young lover, and the enchanting lady at the center of their rivalry. As the barber’s schemes unfold, the play skewers pretensions and social niceties while delivering rapid‑fire dialogue and classic farce. Listeners will be drawn into a world of clever disguises, playful deceptions, and the timeless delight of watching a masterful trickster turn obstacles into laughs.

Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais

1732–1799

Best known for The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro, this lively French playwright turned wit, scandal, and social satire into some of the stage’s most enduring comedies. His life was nearly as dramatic as his work: he was also a watchmaker, courtier, businessman, and political go-between.
