LETTER VIII THE WORLD OF MIND
The narrator, a skeptical writer in wartime Paris, finds himself compelled to take up a pencil for an uncanny purpose. An unseen hand produces a stream of automatic letters signed only with an enigmatic “X,” and the messages seem to announce the death of a man living thousands of miles away. As curiosity outweighs his initial prejudice against spiritualism, he continues the dialogue, feeling both reluctant and privileged to act as a conduit between worlds.
In the final installment, the notes that seemed fragmented at first reveal themselves as a coherent whole, hinting that some larger force may be guiding the end of his work. Written amid the turbulence of 1917‑1918, the reflections feel oddly contemporary, echoing the uneasy balance between doubt and belief. Listeners are invited into a quietly unsettling exploration of mortality, chance, and the strange persistence of a voice from beyond.
