Description

High above Earth’s cloud‑shrouded atmosphere, a battered freighter limps toward the Trans‑Space base, its hold packed with bright, volatile radium mined from Venus. At the helm is Lucky Larson, a flamboyant pilot whose love of stunts has already earned him two grounding warnings and a stern ultimatum from the company chief. The narrator, a wounded but wry observer with a broken arm, watches Larson’s reckless charm clash with the tightening regulations of interplanetary trade.

The uneasy flight is shattered when three hard‑eyed men burst into the cargo bay, demanding the precious load and threatening the crew with force. The narrator tries to bluff the hijackers, buying time while the ship drifts in a fog of danger and bureaucracy. With the fog thickening outside and the crew’s nerves frayed, every decision feels like a gamble in the void.

Gerald Vance

A byline from the pulp science-fiction era, this name was shared by several writers rather than one easily pinned-down author. The stories linked to it carry the fast, imaginative spirit of mid-century magazine SF.
