Deep in the tangled jungles along the banks of the Ousme, two seasoned hunters set up camp, their conversation jittering between bravado and uneasy whispers. Alfredo, a veteran of distant wars, carries a heavy carbine while Antao, eager to test his skill, dreams of confronting the massive beasts that roam the African interior. The river’s lush islands, thick banana groves and towering cotton trees create a vivid backdrop for their restless ambition, yet an unseen presence haunts the water’s edge with a grating cry that reminds Alfredo of a rival who has plagued him for years.
As they push deeper into the emerald wilderness, the hunters must choose between chasing legendary hippos that dominate the floodplain and confronting the shadowy figure whose name alone sends shivers through the forest. Their trek brings encounters with dangerous wildlife, treacherous terrain and the constant threat of betrayal from within their own ranks. By the end of the first act, the jungle’s beauty is matched only by a growing sense that something far more sinister lurks beneath the canopy.
