Description

In a turbulent early‑seventeenth‑century kingdom, the old guard clashes with the rising tide of reform. Ture, a seasoned courtier, sees his influence slipping as his youngest son Göran is thrust into the volatile politics of the royal court, while his elder sons Juhana and Lauri remain loyal friends of the king. As marriage alliances are forged and broken, Ture’s desperate bid to restore his standing draws him into a web of secret petitions, whispered betrayals, and a startling appeal from a cloistered abbess whose family ties could tip the balance of power.

The abbess, sister to the outspoken reformer Hans Brask, arrives with tears and a plea that forces Ture to choose between old loyalties and the promise of new alliances. Meanwhile, the charismatic Kustaa Vaasa, his own ambitions simmering, watches the court’s intrigues from the shadows, his subtle influence hinting at larger conflicts to come. Against a backdrop of looming religious strife and personal vendettas, the first act sets the stage for a saga where honor, love, and power are tested in equal measure.
