Keineth Randolph lives in a tidy brick house on Washington Square, a quiet oasis amid a neighborhood that’s slowly turning into noisy boarding‑houses and artist lofts. Raised by her diligent aunt, Madame Henri, and a devoted father who fills their afternoons with stories of far‑off places, she spends her days curled up in the old armchairs, reading and watching the colorful life of the square through narrow windows. The house feels proud and safe, yet the bustling street outside, with its Italian fruit stall and lively folk songs, constantly whispers of a larger world.
When her aunt begins packing for a voyage across the Atlantic, and her father’s work pulls him out of the city, the familiar rhythm of Keineth’s life is suddenly unsettled. With her mother gone and the future uncertain, the young girl must decide whether to stay within the comforting walls of her home or step into the unknown journey that beckons beyond the garden gate.
