Description

A bleak whaling season has left the modest brig Pilgrim stranded in Auckland with an angry, under‑paid crew and a captain desperate to regain his reputation. Captain Hull, accustomed to the rigors of the southern oceans, decides to turn the ship toward New Zealand, hoping fresh waters will restore the vessel’s fortunes. The decision sparks quiet tension among the men, who mutter about the thin harvest and an uncertain future.

When Mrs Weldon arrives, clutching her recovering son Jack, a loyal nanny, and the eccentric cousin Benedict, she implores Hull to carry them home to San Francisco. Though the voyage will span thousands of miles on a modest hull, the captain’s confidence in his ship’s sturdiness and the promise of favorable weather sway him. Together, they set out on a peril‑filled passage that will test courage, ingenuity, and the bonds forged between strangers at sea.
