Description

In the heat of a summer evening in the Carolina backcountry, a spirited gathering of young women and a newly arrived Continental soldier fills a parlor with laughter, teasing, and the clatter of uniforms. At the center stands Joscelyn Cheshire, whose sharp tongue and unmistakable defiance set her apart from the polite chatter, hinting at a mind unwilling to bow to authority. The scene crackles with the tension of a nation on the brink, as talk of redcoats and rebellion intertwines with the innocent games of courtship.

As Richard Clevering, a private turned hero, parades his flamboyant coat and bravado, the women volley compliments and challenges, each trying to gauge the man who may become a symbol of the cause. Joscelyn watches from the window, her fingers strumming a rebellious tune, daring the British presence while secretly wrestling with her own feelings for the daring soldier. The novel follows her sharp wit and fierce loyalty through the early days of the Revolution, promising a tale of love, bravery, and the spirit of a woman who refuses to be silenced.
