In the quiet village of Rassé, a modest church looms beside a farmer’s refuge, its oddly designed arches and weather‑worn benches creating a strangely beautiful sanctuary. Inside, a delicate tapestry depicting Pope Pius V’s miracles dominates the altar, its tiny stitches drawing the eye of anyone who pauses to pray. The atmosphere feels both ordinary and charged, a place where the divine seems to hover just out of reach.
Here we meet Fernande, a young woman torn from a past life and now kneeling in tears before the holy image, pleading for relief from a lifetime of suffering. As she pours out her heart, a diminutive, cloaked peasant slips silently into the shadows, unseen yet fully aware of her anguish. He is the mysterious figure known as Jean‑Nu‑Pieds, summoned to reconnoiter the nearby castle, and his quiet presence hints at forces that may soon intertwine fate and faith.
