Description

A young English schoolboy, Harry, is offered a chance to leave the familiar streets of Westminster for the turmoil of revolutionary France. Though his father worries about the danger, he sees the journey as a chance for his son to grow beyond his modest school record. As Harry boards the coach, he is filled with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension about the sweeping changes shaking the French countryside. The opening chapters set the stage with vivid sketches of late‑18th‑century England and the looming storm across the Channel.

Once in France, Harry quickly discovers that the promise of liberty is tangled with feverish mobs, secret conspiracies, and the ever‑present threat of the guillotine. He befriends a spirited local girl and finds himself swept into daring escapades—chasing a mad dog, confronting a snarling wolf, and navigating the chaotic streets as the Reign of Terror tightens its grip. Through these early trials, the story blends brisk adventure with a lively portrait of an era in upheaval, inviting listeners to experience history from the eyes of an ordinary teen thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
