Description

In a bustling grammar school, a charismatic but trouble‑making boy named Teddy Burke constantly tests the limits of classroom order. When he places a realistic rubber snake on a classmate’s seat, the teacher, Miss Alton, reacts with swift authority, dragging him off to face the stern principal. The incident quickly becomes the talk of the school, setting the stage for a showdown between youthful rebellion and institutional discipline.

Mr. Waldron, the principal, sees Teddy as a recurring menace and threatens to send him to a special school for wayward students, a prospect that both frightens and intrigues the boy. As Teddy is forced to stay after school under Miss Alton’s watchful eye, readers are drawn into the tension of a young mind confronting the consequences of his actions. The story balances humor, mischief, and the timeless question of how far a school should go to shape its most spirited pupils.

Alfred Raymond

Best remembered for two early 20th-century Harry Harding novels, this elusive writer left behind lively stories about friendship, work, and growing up. The books have the brisk, earnest feel of classic juvenile fiction and still offer a clear window into the values of their time.
