Description

In a brisk New England March, a tight‑knit group of six girls at Wareham Female Seminary find their studies interrupted by the sudden loss of their recitation hall. Led by the ever‑resourceful Bell Winship, they seize the unexpected freedom to turn a quiet family cottage into a living laboratory of friendship and responsibility. Their plan—approved by Bell’s generous father—promises two weeks of shared chores, meals, and mischief, all while the winter wind howls outside.

As the girls settle into their makeshift household, they discover that managing a home brings its own lessons, from balancing fire safety to preserving a beloved jar of jelly. Their laughter and occasional squabbles reveal the growing confidence of young women learning to rely on each other, making the ordinary chores feel like grand adventures. The story captures the charm of early‑twentieth‑century girlhood, where simple acts of teamwork become the foundation for lasting bonds.
