Description

A French‑Canadian soldier‑author sets out to echo the absurdist wanderings of Xavier de Maistre, but with a twist of military routine. In a deliberately self‑deprecating preface he declares his ambition to make readers “yawn” – not out of boredom, but as a curious pleasure rooted in physiology and the sighs of a life spent marching. His humor is dry, his reflections on boredom, pipes and the occasional conspiratorial plan to subvert the reader’s expectations creating a light‑hearted yet surprisingly thoughtful tone.

The narrative unfolds inside a modest tent that becomes a micro‑world of contrasts: stripped of the grandiose provisions of higher‑rank camps, it holds only a single can of spirits, a few biscuits and the narrator’s musings. Through witty description he sketches the everyday absurdities of army life, from the cramped architecture to the makeshift medical kits, while inviting the listener to share in his quiet, almost meditative, rebellion against pomp. The early chapters promise a gentle, amusing stroll through a soldier’s inner landscape, perfect for anyone craving a calm, reflective escape.
