Description

A nervous Mr. Hawtrey brings his daughter Dorothy to the office of the renowned lawyer Charles Levine, hoping to secure advice on a delicate family matter. The meeting quickly turns tense as Dorothy, veiled and trembling, confronts Levine with accusations that hint at a hidden secret she believes he already suspects. Their exchange is a study in subtle power plays, with each side trying to read the other's thoughts while the surrounding characters—Mr. Hawtrey’s confidant Danvers and the steady Mr. Singleton—offer uneasy support.

The scene unfolds in a richly detailed Victorian courtroom setting, where the stakes feel personal and the law becomes a mirror for deeper anxieties. Listeners will be drawn into the layered dialogue, the flickering doubt in raised eyebrows, and the fragile confidence of a young woman determined to protect her family’s reputation. As the conversation deepens, the true nature of the dispute hangs in the balance, promising further intrigue without yet revealing the ultimate resolution.
