Description

Dorothy is a bright‑spirited teenager whose wanderlust takes her from the sun‑baked streets of San Diego onto the polished private car of railway magnate Dan Ford. As the “Erminie” glides past the Rockies, she and her chatty cousin Alfaretta trade jokes, wrap up a jumble of souvenirs—horned‑toad cards, Indian dolls, even a clumsy musket—and debate whether the adventure is a fleeting dream or the start of something real. The lively dialogue and the restless rhythm of the journey set a tone that balances youthful frivolity with the promise of the untamed West.

When the train finally pulls into Denver, Dorothy faces the choice of returning to familiar comforts or pressing onward to a remote ranch that beckons with mountains, sheep cabins, and the raw life of the frontier. Alongside a mischievous boy named Leslie and her ever‑practical aunt, she feels the pull of new responsibilities and the thrill of unknown horizons. Listeners will be drawn into her vivid descriptions, the humor of her companions, and the gentle unfolding of a girl on the cusp of a larger world.
