Description

A fresh chapter in the ever‑curious life of Dave Porter finds the bright‑minded graduate swapping schoolbooks for blueprints, as a new civil‑engineering job takes him deep into the rugged heart of Texas. While he settles into the demanding work of building bridges and rail lines, a baffling letter about a missing pair of shoes draws him into a quirky mystery that quickly spirals into something far larger—a vanished family fortune tied to the enigmatic Basswood estate.

Joined by his spirited sister Laura and a cast of colorful locals, Dave must unravel clues that lead from bustling Texas towns to a snow‑bound sleigh ride, shady shopkeepers, and a shadowy double who seems to be living his life in parallel. Along the way, daring chases, secret tunnels and a looming blizzard test his ingenuity and courage, promising plenty of adventure before the mystery reaches its first dramatic turning point.
