Description

In a quiet corner of 19th‑century Bergslagen, the aging husband Abraham and his wife Gunhild await the birth of their fourth child. Their modest cottage, with its cold stone tower room and a single open window, frames a routine of careful steps, whispered prayers, and the low hum of farmhands outside. Abraham, sixty‑six, wrestles with the weight of providing for a growing family while secretly fearing the cost of yet another ceremony. Gunhild, weary yet dignified at thirty‑eight, balances maternal fatigue with the quiet hope of a new arrival.

Through gently mocking dialogue, the couple’s concerns turn into a subtle comedy of expectations, from the looming baptism to the glossy heirlooms that have long defined their status. Abraham’s attempts to rationalize the expense clash humorously with Gunhild’s resigned sighs, while the bustling servants provide a lively backdrop of chatter and mischief. Listeners are invited into a world where ordinary worries are amplified by the cadence of rural Swedish life, hinting at the small crises and celebrations yet to unfold.
