Dan Carter and the Cub Honor

Dan Carter dribbles a basketball through the cramped gym of First Methodist Church, surrounded by his Cub Scout denmates. Their practice is interrupted when Pat Oswald and his rowdy gang crash through a window, turning a friendly drill into a chaotic showdown. The boys trade taunts, and the intruders flaunt their skill, leaving the Cubs both annoyed and oddly impressed.

When the ruckus ends, the seasoned Cubmaster, Mr. Hatfield, calls the group to a meeting upstairs, where he introduces a new recruit, Charles “Chub” Weldon, a shy boy who needs guidance. He asks Dan and the others to look after him, warning them not to tease about his background. Dan feels a mix of excitement and responsibility, sensing that this unexpected turn could shape his Cub experience in ways he never imagined. The promise of mentorship hints at deeper bonds and future trials for the young scouts.
