Description

The story opens with the flamboyant arrival of Baron Rudolph von Blitzenberg, a wealthy continental noble appointed attaché to the German embassy in London. His vast estates, striking lineage, and marriage to a distinguished English lady set the tone for a whirlwind of society invitations, triumphantly chronicled in newspapers and gossip columns. As the city rolls out the red carpet, the Baron's dazzling presence invites both admiration and speculation about the diplomatic significance of his posting.

Yet behind the polished façade, the Baron feels a growing restlessness, sighing wistfully at his drawing‑room window and questioning the gilded cage of aristocratic life. His witty wife probes his melancholy, hinting that the endless parade of familiar faces may be wearing thin. The narrative promises a gently comic exploration of cultural clashes, personal yearning, and the absurdities of high‑society protocol.
