Description

At the height of 1664 the fledgling colony of New France teeters on the brink of collapse. Iroquois warbands, fresh from annihilating the Huron nation, lay siege to Montreal, Trois‑Rivières and Quebec, turning the thin wooden palisades into uneasy prisons while isolated farmers fall to brutal raids. The French settlers, exhausted and haunted by rumors of abandonment, cling to a fragile hope that relief might come from across the ocean.

Behind the scenes in France, a kingdom mired in civil wars, regencies and foreign campaigns forgets its distant outpost, leaving the colony with scarcely a hundred soldiers to defend a vast wilderness. Into this chaotic tableau steps the enigmatic Chevalier de Mornac, a man described as the embodiment of two contrasting Gascon spirits. As the first act unfolds, his daring resolve and sharp intellect promise to challenge the Iroquois threat and the indifferent authorities alike.
