Description

This volume brings to English ears a 16th‑century Bengali epic that records the life of the great Vaishnav saint, Chaitanya. Compiled by the poet‑scholar Krishna‑das, who heard the saint’s teachings directly from his own companions, the work is divided into three sections covering his birth, his pilgrimage years, and his final decades in Puri. The translator has kept the language literal while smoothing out repetitive passages, so modern listeners can follow the narrative without losing its devotional colour.

In the opening part, listeners hear how a gifted orphan from Burdwan became drawn to the teachings of Nityānanda and set out on foot for Brindaban, where he entered monastic order. The middle section, the longest of the three, details his itinerant preaching, his ecstatic devotion to Krishna, and the simple yet profound philosophy he shared with ordinary villagers. The translation preserves the original verses and scriptural references, offering a clear, heartfelt glimpse of Chaitanya’s early spiritual journey.
