Description

Cesar Cascabel leads his eclectic caravan aboard the modest vessel Schoone Zwerfster on a daring crossing of the Bering Strait. After a brief stop on the American coast, the crew steers northward, threading the narrow, shallow channel that separates Alaska from Siberia. The narrative opens with a vivid sketch of icy waters, shifting winds and the stark geography that makes the passage both a tantalising shortcut and a perilous gamble.

As they push toward the remote Asian shore of Numana, Cascabel muses on the ancient possibility of a land bridge linking the continents—a notion that blends scientific curiosity with practical ambition. The travelers contend with lingering snowstorms, the polar night’s muted sky, and the unknown cultures awaiting them on the other side. Their journey promises a blend of meticulous observation and relentless adventure, inviting listeners to feel the crisp Arctic air and the thrill of stepping into an uncharted world.
