Description

With the guns finally silent, Lucy Gordon finds herself still caught in the tangled aftermath of a war that refuses to end cleanly. Stationed as a nurse’s aide in a makeshift hospital nestled in a quiet forest near the Rhine, she wrestles with a yearning to return home to America while duty pulls her deeper into a continent in transition. The opening scenes follow her uneasy walk along the riverbank of Coblenz, where the December light reflects off the gentle water and her companion, the ever‑cheerful aviator Larry Eaton, tries to lift her spirits.

Larry’s irrepressible optimism and philosophical outlook contrast with Lucy’s lingering melancholy, yet together they discover small pockets of peace amid occupied towns and war‑scarred villages. Their conversations reveal the broader challenges facing the American occupation forces, from the slow‑moving bureaucracy to the lingering danger beyond the front lines. As Lucy embraces a new assignment at a secluded hospital, the story sets a tone of quiet bravery and hopeful perseverance, offering listeners a glimpse into the human side of post‑war reconstruction.
