Description

A tight‑knit troop of Boy Scouts gathers in a upscale New York clubroom, swapping tales of a makeshift houseboat journey down the Mississippi. Their leader, a bright‑eyed teen named George Fremont, sparks a plan to spend the spring on the Rio Grande, eager to blend adventure with a sense of duty to their country. The boys talk logistics, map routes, and imagine the thrill of guarding the border alongside Uncle Sam.

When the expedition reaches the Mexican frontier, the scouts quickly find themselves drawn into a puzzling mystery involving coded messages, wandering wolves, and a sudden disappearance. Using their badge‑earned skills—signalling from the mountain, tracking footprints, and decoding secret notes—they work to uncover what has gone wrong before night falls. The tale captures the excitement of wilderness exploration while highlighting the values of teamwork, resourcefulness, and quiet patriotism.

Best known for fast-moving Boy Scout adventures, this byline helped shape a popular stream of early 20th-century juvenile fiction. Modern reference sources note that the name was likely used as a collective pen name rather than by a single writer.
