Description

In the bustling streets of early‑1700s Paris, a newborn is christened François Boucher under the watchful eye of a royal tipstaff and the whispered curiosity of the city’s fashionable elite. The narrative opens amid the rustle of autumn leaves and the clatter of canes on the Palais Royal, painting a vivid portrait of a France bruised by war yet alive with courtly intrigue. As the infant’s godparents swap gossip and snuff, listeners hear the foundations of a world where art, patronage, and politics will soon collide.

Soon the small boy grows alongside the echo of battlefield defeats and the glimmer of royal commissions, his ears filled with tales of Blenheim and the looming presence of Madame de Pompadour. Within the modest Rue de Verrerie, Boucher’s formative years are shaped by a city that is both a battlefield and a salon, hinting at the talent that will blossom amid the swirling lights and shadows of the French Rococo. The story promises a richly textured glimpse into how a humble infant becomes entwined with a nation’s cultural heartbeat.
