Description

The story opens in late‑fourteenth‑century England, a land choked by feudal burdens that leave the majority of peasants bound to the soil, denied the right to trade, and excluded from the king’s wars. Their frustration brews into a desperate demand for freedom, while whispers of rebellion echo through the countryside. Against this backdrop, the narrative follows a young, thoughtful boy named Edgar Ormskirk and the wise prior who guide him through the tangled politics of a kingdom ruled by a child‑king and his scheming counselors.

As the two walk the quiet gardens near Dartford, they hear the rumblings of unrest that will soon swell into Wat Tyler’s famous march on London. Their conversations reveal the stark contrast between the learned world of manuscripts and the harsh reality of a people driven to desperate action. The stage is set for an uprising that will test loyalties, courage, and the very notion of liberty.
