Description

In the first days of spring vacation, four young women from the close‑knit community of Friendly Terrace find themselves navigating a world still rattled by the aftershocks of war. Amy Lassell, content to linger in the comfort of idle days, contrasts sharply with the industrious Peggy Raymond, whose practical mind drives the group to launch a small‑scale “council of war” against soaring prices. Together with Ruth and Priscilla, they debate thrift, fashion, and the lingering sense of duty that keeps them tied to the Red Cross and the campus they love.

When the others head out for a day of shopping and socializing, Amy stays behind, turning the dining‑room table into a makeshift sewing studio. With a bolt of blue taffeta, a paper pattern, and a stubborn determination, she re‑creates a summer dress that mirrors the era’s fleeting trends while quietly asserting her own independence. Listeners will be drawn into the lively banter, the earnest plans for economic survival, and the warm camaraderie that hints at the adventures yet to unfold.
