Born Robert Ernest Gilbert on May 6, 1924, he was an American science fiction author and illustrator. Reference sources for his fiction credit him with stories such as A Thought for Tomorrow, Stopover Planet, Thy Rocks and Rills, and The Space Between, and they place his publishing career in the early 1950s.
Gilbert was also known in fandom as a prolific artist, often signing his work "REG." His illustrations and covers appeared in many science fiction fanzines, and later summaries of his career describe him as especially active in the late 1950s and 1960s.
Available sources also describe him as a graduate of the Washington School of Art and a World War II veteran. He died on April 4, 1993.
