About the author

Born in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols in Ardèche on May 26, 1866, Paul Brulat was a French writer and journalist. Library and literary reference sources identify him as both a novelist and a newspaper man, and he is especially remembered for books that drew on journalistic life.

Among his noted works are L'Âme errante, Le Reporter and La Faiseuse de gloire. Reference sources also note that he contributed to a range of periodicals, and that his career was helped early on by support from Émile Zola.

Brulat died in 1940 at Le Chesnay. Though he is not widely known today, his work offers a glimpse of French literary culture at the turn of the twentieth century, especially where fiction, politics, and journalism meet.
