About the author

Born in Pielavesi on April 1, 1875, and dead in Helsinki on September 2, 1919, Lauri Soini wrote during a lively period in Finnish literary and cultural life. His full name was Lauri Soininen, but he published under forms such as Lauri Soini and also used several pen names.

He was a versatile author: in addition to poetry, he worked as a journalist and translator, and he wrote detective novels under the name Lauri Sauramo. His literary debut came in 1895 with Runopisareita, and his work shows a writer comfortable moving between more serious writing and accessible popular storytelling.

That range makes him an interesting figure for modern readers and listeners. He belongs to a generation of Finnish authors who helped shape literature not only through poems and books, but also through newspapers, translation, and writing for a broader public.
