Description

The opening verses blaze with vivid colour, the red of fire and the green of the living earth, setting a tone of passionate yearning. Through a series of lyrical pieces, the poet moves from the rallying cry of a red flag, invoking solidarity among workers, to reflections on oppression, hunger and the hope for freedom. The language is raw and musical, echoing street chants and the rhythm of collective struggle.

Interwoven with the political outcry are tender images of nature and everyday life: a blooming girl likened to a spring flower, the simple joys of family, the warmth of a hearth and the quiet strength of mothers. Short narrative poems tell of children on the streets, youthful songs, and the quiet resilience of a community bound by shared purpose. The collection offers a heartfelt snapshot of early‑20th‑century Finnish society, where hope, love, and the drive for social justice pulse together.
